Used Fishing Boats
Many people try to stay away from used goods because of the preconception that they are “damaged” or somehow lower in quality. Because of such conclusions, anything used has a reputation for being bad and buyers therefore stay as far away from them as possible.
No so with used fishing boats. Why? Because used boats, especially the solidly made ones, such as Bass fishing boats, are long-lasting, and if boats were damaged severely or posed a danger, they would likely not be sold. “Used” simply means “bought and implemented at least one time.” In light of this, any used fishing boat shouldn’t be discounted or deemed less valuable or having less quality. Used aluminum fishing boats for sale are likely to be in great shape because aluminum is fire-resistant, do not leak, and any used fishing boat for sale that hasn’t been painted would have a layer of aluminum oxide to reinforce the integrity of the hull. Any old fishing boat, then, will only need to be cleaned, which can be done cheaply and lickity-split.
This basically goes with any type—used sport fishing boat, used fish/ski boat or used commercial fishing boats. Many brand names that have been used, too, require little maintenance. Used Lund fishing boats and used Ranger boats (fish/ski sports boats or aluminum inshore boats) are typically in good condition when sold, so prices might still be high, but are reasonable. After all, if brand-name fishing boats retain their high-quality even when sold in “used” status, no knowledgeable buyer can expect them to be cheap. And any type of boat for sale that is in excellent condition—brand name or not—is still a good deal compared to new fishing boats. Several used ‘flats’ fishing boats, for instance, remain as buoyant and sturdy as when they were first showcased new in a showroom.
Used commercial fishing boats in New England will likely be more due to size, but the profit payback that owners receive from their loads would more than provide a return on that in no time.
Regulations also cover used fishing boats. In Pennsylvania, the Fish and Boat Commission has established laws regarding maintenance and implementation of tackle and boats in both inshore and offshore fishing practiced. These laws ensure that the sport is being conducted the right way and that every piece of equipment, including boats, is being used in a safe and wise manner.
Used fishing boats are gems to have. These boast ongoing quality without being ostentatious, which is a sign of a true-blue reliable fishing boat. Anglers and fishermen are probably better off buying used rather than new, if not for the savings factor, then for the fact that used boats have proven the test of time.
